Venue: Ocean Studios

Description

A unique opportunity for children aged 8 to 16 to participate in up-cycling
workshops and explore the world of sustainable fashion

This four-day course, led by professional upcycling designers Abigail Schaefer

from Mukta_un_done and Nina Westwood from Minski.official, in

collaboration with Lizzy Evans from Make at 140, aims to foster creativity,

environmental consciousness, and hands-on skills.

Sustainable and slow fashion has become one of the most significant

movements in the quest for a greener and more earth-friendly manufacturing

industry. Upcycling, in particular, stands out as an effective way to create new

garments using surplus textiles that have already undergone the

manufacturing process. By reusing these materials, designers can produce new

looks with minimal environmental impact.

During the Sustainable Summer Sewing School, students will have the

opportunity to unleash their imagination and express themselves through the

process of designing and creating unique one-of-a-kind garments.

The workshops will cover various techniques, guided by the expertise of Abigail

Schaefer and Nina Westwood, and will take participants through the steps

required to create a mini collection from old garments, fabrics, and other

textiles.

The workshops will commence with mood boarding and exploring different

shapes, which will then be developed through draping and basic pattern

cutting. As the participants gain a solid foundation in the design process, they

will learn sewing techniques tailored to their abilities for garment construction.

The culmination of their efforts will be showcased in a small-scale fashion

show held at Ocean Studios on Saturday, August 19th.

We strongly believe that the Sustainable Summer Sewing School will provide

invaluable skills, foster creativity, and instil a sense of environmental

responsibility in your child. It is an excellent opportunity for them to engage in

a hands-on learning experience and contribute to a greener future.
