Connecting people, art and nature.
The sun has inspired people throughout history as a symbol of life, light and renewal. By blending art with science, Helios invites us to reflect on the forces that shape our planet, and recognise our role in serving and protecting the natural world.
This impressive 7m sculpture combines solar imagery, sunlight effects, and a specially created surround soundscape (includes authentic NASA recordings of the Sun by Duncan Speakman and Sarah Anderson).
On display at Market Hall, Devonport from 20th-28th September from 10am-4pm each day.
No booking necessary.
At a Scale: Approx. 1:200 million – every 1cm represents 200km of the Sun’s surface. Visitors can see detailed solar features like sunspots, spicules, and filaments up close, incorporating imagery of solar flares linked to the May 2024 Northern Lights over the UK.
