Description

In 200 years from now, if you dug down below the surface of Devonport, what objects would you discover?

Imagine yourself as an archaeologist of the future. In 200 years from now, if you dug down below the surface of Devonport, what objects would you discover? And what would these treasures tell you about Devonport in 2024?

Future Archaeology invites you to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Devonport by visiting a futuristic vision of the landscape and encountering some everyday objects that belong to the people who live here today. Listen to their stories and imagine what object you would leave behind to tell your story to future archaeologists, 200 years from now.

Future Archaeology is a collaboration between multi disciplinary artist Naresh Kaushal and performance researcher Jamie Harper. Working with small groups of local people, this project seeks to uncover hidden stories of Devonport, shining a light on the everyday experiences that make this place what it is.

Combining an installation film at The Box and a screening in the immersive dome at Market Hall, Future Archaeology offers a snapshot of people, places and things from Devonport in 2024 and invites audiences to respond with their own imaginings of Devonport: from the past, to the present, and into the future.

The Future Archaeologies project is a joint commission awarded by The Box and Real Ideas.
